What are the maximum unventilated branch lengths?

Critical note on 32mm basin waste: The maximum unventilated run of 1.7m only applies at the shallowest gradient (18--22mm/m). At steeper falls the allowable length drops sharply. When do I need an air admittance valve (AAV)?

What about 110mm soil stacks and connections?

The 110mm soil stack (SVP -- soil vent pipe) is the vertical pipe that collects branch discharge pipes and carries waste down to the underground drain. Key requirements:

  • Minimum internal diameter: 100mm (110mm OD in standard uPVC).
  • Must extend above the roof by at least 900mm if within 3m of an opening window, or can terminate inside the building with an AAV.

  • WC branch connections to the stack should be made at or below the centre line of the stack pipe, and at least 200mm below any other branch connection to avoid cross-flow.

What happens if my waste pipe run is longer than the maximum unventilated length?
